Vosanus Wiki

Introduction

Vosanus is the name of a planet (and the surrounding worldbuilding project) that I created as an investigation into scientifically realistic speculative fiction. The project has been ongoing for approximately 5 years, with many overhauls and tweaks along the way; it currently consists of an Earth-like planet inhabited by a sapient alien spiecies with a range of cultures and languages. The project encompasses speculative applications of astronomy, geology, biology and physics - as well as speculative xenolinguistics, xenobiology and sociology. This wiki is an attempt to document the width and breadth of Vosanus as a planet and project, as well as to serve the purpose of a canonical and centralised source of information about the world.

Worldbuilding? Xenobiology? Conlanging? What's that?

"Worldbuilding" is the term given to the process of constructing fictional worlds and settings for a variety of purposes. The purpose of Vosanus is expressly artistic and investigatory. The proccess can be done in a number of ways, with varyling levels of realism and attention to detail. The Vosanus Project takes place within the Universe as we know it, so the events and features in the world conform to known physical laws and processes, such as astronomical lifecycles, planet formation, evolution and so on. "Xeno-" is a suffix reffering to proccesses or qualities that are foreign or external. When applied to a scientific field of study, it modifies it to mean the application of said study to non-anthropological or terrestrial circumstances. Xenobiology is the biology of alien ife, for example. "Conlanging" is the proccess of creating constructed languages, called "conlangs". These, like constructed worlds, can conform to realism and naturalism to any degree desired. The languages in the Vosanus Project are meant to be naturalsitic artlangs - languages that could hypothetically arise naturally from known linguistic proccesses, that conform to a desired aesthetic character.

Where do I start?

Use the sidebar to navigate to the Index, to the Project History page, or to the Master Documents section. The Project History outlines the out-of-world extent, history and motivations of the Vosanus Project; the Master Documents section is a range of prepared and formatted documents available to download and read that outline broad and comprehensive features of the project, e.g. astronomical facts, historical events, reference grammars, maps, etc...
